Now lets see how long it takes to fix things

The main roads are buckled because of the heavy bus use, they will have to be fixed before winter.
The local back roads are also in bad shape thanks to the same over use of buses.
We're glad it worked out for you USGA but the damage you left behind will take this stupid, aka dirt poor county to fix.

Traffic issues

Took me an hour for a 20 minute trip into Bethesda last night.  The police just site in their cars and don't do anything about moving the traffic flow.  May as well not be there. Last nights fun and games cost me an 8o dollar gratuity for a research study that I could not get to in time.
The bus are destroying Oaklyn Drive..as they come from River Road after getting off on that 270 exit, slower but you do get around traffic.   The bus traffic is leaving an oil slick on the road and it's eating the highway itself. These are local roads and aren't designed from a New York style rush hour with an endless line of buses.

Bring lots of money

A burger at the US Open will cost you 7.50 USD.  The area where you can buy stuff and there is a lot of it to look at will set you back at least 75 dollars a golf shirt, or perhaps a little more if you go full designer. The cheapest thing to be found is the program which is a steal at 10 USD.  So bring plenty of cash or a boatload of plastic because you're going to need it at this venue.

You'll enter thru an area that's gigantic is scope and doesn't look at all like a golf tournament it's very regal looking .  If you were at this course two years ago when it was the AT&T hosted by Tiger Woods, well its been seriously doctored.   No one has ever liked the 18th hole so it's been changed.  Other holes are longer and bunkered up.  Tee area's are longer.  It's what you expect from the USGA, they had over two years to mess with this course and mess with it they did.
Local area parking, unless you have a parking pass for a local lot FORGET Coming over to Potomac. You will be towed.
It's a shame that when a golf event is not occurring around these parts you can never find a police car when you need it. Plenty of them this week, trashing the grass around AVENEL.
Good chance of rain on Thursday, Friday and over the weekend and that means the local parking areas will be mud piles.  Good luck with that.

What to expect

If you do manage to survive traffic trama and make it to the course you will be let off near a bridge that you will walk up to and cross over MacArthur Blvd.. It's about 14 feet and trucks who have been delivering food and other supplies to the various staging areas have not had a problem going under it.
There are several staging areas along Persimmon Tree Road that are cut ins in the fencing for the course. These are guarded and unless you have the right color ID you aren't going to get in.  Mainly used for supply the various tents on the course and that amount of tent-age will surprise you if you had attended any of the Tiger Woods  4 of July AT and T tournaments at Congressional.
So you made onto the course...what can you expect....it's not the same place that Tiger Woods worked on for his tournament.  Holes have been shortened and in some cases lengthened. You are going to find bunkers and sand all over the place.  The US Open doctors have spent about a year working this place over.  And it's going to surprise the guys who thought that when tiger re-did this place it was tough. You haven't seen it til you've played it.

Traffic Cams that are live

Try this one close by to Congressional it's on the corner you'll see it on the traffic light.
If you are parked in the Gaithersburg area you'll want to check this cam.
There are a couple of other hidden cams, that you can't see.

NO Sat truck for this one

It's comcastic don't you know..large microwave reflectors so that NBC can ship the video to local comcastic owned and operated WRC TV.  You see then on the corner of River Road and Bradly BLVD.  You can't miss em they are higher than the local tree tops.

Tiger Woods is NOT Coming.

The security plan for the 2011 U.S. Open Championship at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., has been coordinated by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies with the goal of providing a safe environment for all attending the championship. Spectators attending the U.S. Open, to be played June 13-19, will experience increased security measures.
All general spectators traveling by car to the 2011 U.S. Open should follow event trail signs to general spectator parking located off I-270 in Gaithersburg at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds and the Crown Farm property.  This will take you 35 minutes north of where you really want to be. If you come early on Thursday or Friday you're going to be stuck in traffic coming down 270 during morning rush hour. And leaving you going to have the same problem., Not well thought out here.  OOPS.
If you try to park in any of the local area you will be towed.  If you have a parking pass, check to see what lot it says you are in.  A and B are the primo spaces on the grounds of the course.  The only loser is lot f which is near Montgomery Mall a local shopping mecca, that's about a 15-20 minute bus ride.
For championship spectators traveling along I-95 and west of I-495 in Virginia, parking will be available in a reserved lot at Dulles International Airport. A parking pass will be required to utilize this parking option at Dulles. Any spectators in the local area or out-of-town spectators staying in Virginia should call the championship office prior to June 10  that's Friday at (888) 823-4465 to obtain their parking pass. Shuttle buses from the parking area at Dulles will utilize the VA 267 Dulles Airport Access Road for a convenient shuttle ride to the golf course.  35 Minutes is convenient?Again early folks who use this on Thursday and Friday should be aware of the delay you will encounter as you get
The USGA will operate approximately 275 shuttle buses from the three parking areas. That system will run continuously from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day and will drop off spectators in close proximity to the Main Admission Gate. All spectators should allow extra time as they will be required to pass through a screening process before boarding the shuttles at either location.
“There will be metal detection screening, similar to what you experience at airport security,” said Capt. Darryl McSwain of the Montgomery County Police Department, which is overseeing the law enforcement operations. “This screening process is designed to prevent spectators from bringing prohibited items onto the championship grounds. Our goal is to assure that everyone has a safe and an enjoyable experience at the U.S. Open.
“We encourage all spectators to review the list of prohibited items and secure those items in a safe place or leave them at home. Bringing them to a screening area will only prolong the admissions process,” said Capt. McSwain.
After passing through the screening process, spectators will board the shuttles to Congressional Country Club. Once arriving at Congressional, spectators must present a valid ticket or credential to enter the championship grounds. All U.S. Open tickets and credentials have a unique bar code that will be scanned at the admission gate. You have to walk over a metal bridge constructed for the purpose.
Attendees utilizing alternative forms of transportation or coming to the U.S. Open from other parking locations will be required to go through an on-site security screening checkpoint prior to entering the championship grounds, with procedures identical to those at the spectator parking areas.
“Our security measures for the U.S. Open represent the collaborative efforts of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies,” said Dan Hoban, the USGA’s director of security. “With cooperation from championship attendees, we anticipate that these screening measures will add minimally to the time required to enter the championship grounds.”
